Frank Godon Speaks on the Indian Act

* We recommend watching with subtitles turned on.

Transcript:

Well let me tell you a little about who I am. How’s that? My name is Frank Godon. I’m from Boissevain, Manitoba. I grew up living in the Turtle Mountains. My grandparents were Metis. My grandmother was Ojibaway. She was from a reservation in the US and we grew up in the Turtle Mountains so alot of hunting, alot of fishing, alot of trapping.

I’m a very political guy and my main job is a professor. I worked at, and I still do, since 2004 I worked at the State University in Saint Peterberg, Russia. I taught in the journalism faculty. I’m a professor in the journalism faculty and I taught in the zoology faculty in the Canadian studies department Canadian Aboriginal culture and history. During teaching that Canadian Aboriginal culture and history, I never even knew about the Indian Act. That’s when I found out more about it.

Alot of people don’t know. Alot of aboriginal people don’t know what the Indian Act is about. When I came back to Canada in 2013 I got into politics. Well, I did come back in 2010. I tried running for the president of the Manitoba Metis Federation and I didn’t win so I went back to Russia. When I came back in 2013, I ran in a federal by-election in Brandon-Souris as a libertarian candidate and then in 2016 provincial election I ran for the Manitoba Party in Arthur-Virden. So I do have some experience in running and in doing a campaign.

But the one thing I want to talk about tonight is the Indian Act. Alot of aboriginal people, and I’ll read you something from a chief – we’re looking for a party that’s not going to pay lip service to abolishing the Indian Act. Trudeau made the promise last election to the Native People that he would abolish the Indian Act. He’s not doing anything. Same with the Conservative Party beforehand. They tend to – what’s the word I’m looking for – distract us with the shiny gold trinkets and whatever the government can give because they want to keep the Indian Act in place.

I want to start off with … Not many people know that non-aboriginal people are in the Indian Act too. So if you’re not an aboriginal person, you’re still in this Indian Act. The Indian Act sets out the legal definition of who is considered a person of aboriginal status under Canadian Law and therefore who is entitled to certain charter rights and freedoms. In addition to treaty rights, while aboriginal status means certain rights and freedoms, it also means being dictated to about a number of things that impact the structure of one’s day-to-day life and greater community through all the other stuff that’s in the Indian Act. The definition of a legal aboriginal status also means that by virtue of negation all non-aboriginal people are legally defined as well. So the Indian Act, the government tells us who is an Indian and who is not. And by telling us who an Indian is they are also telling you who you are.

The other thing I want to bring out about the Indian Act that also includes non-aboriginal people is Queen Elizabeth’s claim to own almost all of Canada and we’re just borrowing it. The Indian Act states right on the first page designated lands means “attractive land or any interest therein the legal title to which remains vested in Her Majesty and in which the band for whose use and benefit is set apart as a reserve”. Aboriginal people do not own their own land – those under the Indian Act. And is followed by surrendered lands, means a reserve or part of a reserve or any interest therein the legal title to which remains vested in Her Majesty that has been released or surrendered by the band whose use and benefit is set apart. While it means that contrary to the common understanding of Canadian Law, no one but Queen Elizabeth can legally own land in Canada. We’re all just borrowing it – all of us aboriginal and non-aboriginal. You can own your house but the land on which it is built is not yours. The vast majority of this country has been declared reserve lands upon which may be founded treaties and the Indian Act enacted into law, once that happened the aboriginal people were forced out of their homes and onto the reserves. Now if they can do that to aboriginal people, if she wants your land, she can do the same thing to anybody else.

I mentioned that there was a chief in 2010, with the title “Our Time”, the speech filled with passion aimed at gaining international support for aboriginal issues. The Indian Act is the old and nasty piece of legislation, in those words, clearly designed as an instrument of oppression, control, and assimilation and Canadians currently and historically First Nations governments operate on a treaty function.

In the Canadian Nationalist Party, number 16 is to “abolish the Indian Act”. Like I said, there are many Canadian aboriginal people looking for a party like this.

As I’ve been working with and within the Canadian Nationalist Party, I’ve noticed alot of hatchet jobs by the media claiming that this is a “white nationalist” party and trying to put it on the “far-right”. I am not a face of the far right and neither is my family. We’re not a face of “white supremacy” or “white nationalism”. We’re the face of Canadian nationalism. I guess I’m here to stand by that definition of what this party is and I’ll challenge any media to talk with me, an aboriginal person, what the Canadian Nationalist Party means to us. So with that, I end my speech. I’ll take any questions you have and thank you very much.

Questions:

So with abolishing it, what kind of effect is it going to have? What are we going to see?

Well for one thing, we are going to see the “crown lands” that they own for us come back under our jurisdiction. The crown lands are just that – they’re crown lands that belong to the crown and all the natural resources under it have been stolen from the First Nations that signed the treaties to allow Europeans onto the land. Now, the Crown said they will keep these [lands] in trusts for you. See there is a misconception that Canadian taxes pay for aboriginal benefits. No. The minuscule amount of money made from natural resources on crown lands is what pays for all the aboriginal benefits. This is why you have all these court cases – and this is something I believe the Canadian Nationalist Party will address – is all these frivolous lawsuits (land claim lawsuits) that are only making lawyers rich. It is not doing anything for the Canadian people or the Aboriginal people or the First Nations. This is something we need to address and that is something that abolishing the Indian Act will do.

The second thing is it no longer defines who we are. Now, in Canada I can only define myself as a Metis person. “Mixed blood”. In the United States, I’m a member of the Turtle Mountain band Ojibawa Indians because my grandmother was part of that tribe. We are not animals to be given a blood quantum – “Oh, he’s half Indian. He’s a quarter Indian. He’s an eighth Indian. He’s 19% or whatever percent”. The First Nations have their own culture from society and within a Canadian framework we can all work together instead of what the government likes is an “us against them” mentality and the Americans have been pushed down (a similar narrative) with black people and hispanics in the United States and the Canadian government is doing the same thing. That’s the main thing: it’s a racist piece of paper. But apparently people don’t know it because wherever a chief or somebody in power wants to get rid of it, out come the shiny trinkets from the government. We need a party in government who is going to say “This is enough. We’ll let the First Nations decide how they want to end the Indian Act”.

Give it to them, they come back to us, it’s history.

Is there any other federal party that has expressed interest in abolishing the Indian Act?

Libertarian was the only one at the time. Both Conservatives and Liberals have made promises to look at it, to abolish it, but they don’t want to because then they would lose control. The First Nations people of Canada just don’t control their own reserves. They control their resources for all crown lands because of how the treaties were created at that time. Someone who really knows more about this is Craig Blacksmith from Portage. I met Craig last summer when he was running for chief. And he talked about abolishing the Indian Act. His understanding is unreal, trying to hit home, this man he can explain every little detail and why it needs to be abolished as alot of tribes out in BC don’t even recognize the Indian Act because BC was never treaty. The tribes never signed treaties with Canada. The Souix Nations, Souix Vallet, Birdtail, Chinukpuwakpa, they’re Souix, they never signed anything with the Canadian Government so they’re not even under the Indian Act. Alot of people don’t know that either.

Thank you.

Give them a chance though. Why can’t you build your own houses and be plumbers and contractors and electricians? Help their own people.

Abolishing the Indian Act would allow them to do that. Under the Indian Act, they cannot build their own houses. They cannot maintain their own houses. The government has to take care of them and that’s one thing people don’t know.

The Indian Act keeps them from maintaining their own houses. They have to go through the band office, they have to go through a whole bunch of red tape to get something done. They’re not going to do that. Most people aren’t going to do that. If you wanted a faucet fixed, you could not legally buy a new facet and put a facet on because the government controls them through the Indian Act. It is a paternalistic act and that is why alot of natives want to get rid of it – those that want to move ahead. Now, those that don’t care – yeah, government is taking care of me. They’re the lazy ones. They’ll kick back and take their monthly peanuts and live the way they’ve always been living and they don’t have to lift a finger to do anything. And why should they?

What that Senator – and I don’t believe she should have been kicked out – she was telling the truth. And in this day and age nobody wants to hear the truth. It seems like that. As soon as you say something about another race of people they slam you with being “racist” and that is definitely something we need to change in this country because, guess what, there is problems with all levels on people and if you call something out and its the truth, well think of ways to fix it.

That’s what alot of us as aboriginal people, we want to get out there and fix it.

My grandparents left the reservation system in the 1920s. They came with 3 small children, came into Canada and started farming because my grandfather did not want to live under the reservation system and he did not want the church stealing his children and taking them away to boarding schools which was another thing in Canada that the Indian Act set up – stealing children away.

He farmed when it wasn’t a good time for natives to be farming. But he farmed. He supplemented in the winter time with hunting and trapping and in the summer time he had the horses out there and he was plowing. He was doing whatever he needed to do. This was in the 20s and into the 30s when the depression had struck.

They had 7 children, 6 who survived, the 7th died in infancy. Three of them joined the military in the early 40s. Two in WWII and then the third one joined the Korean War. My father served in D-Day. He was in D-Day. He was one of the first men on the beach and he was a prisoner of war after that. They came back broken men, but they came back. Two of them became millionaires out of that family because of the work ethic that my grandfather handed down to them.

You don’t get anything for nothing.

Actually he was looked bad upon by both white men and natives in the area. The natives said “You don’t deserve that. You don’t belong up there”. My parents and my father and his brother and two sisters, they got it from both ends. The whites called them half breeds, the Indians called them apples (red on the outside white on the inside).

They never have lived under the Indian Act and they’ve never wanted to. They walked away from it. Alot of aboriginals have walked away from it and they’ve become successful people.

City of Saskatoon Politically Discriminates Against CNP

The Canadian Nationalist Party has learned that the City of Saskatoon has engaged in political discrimination against their organization by denying a permit to assemble at City Hall while granting the same privileges to another political group.

While our application to hold a demonstration for our political party during the month of July was denied due to “denominational” reasons, a competing political group, the NDP, was granted a permit to use the exact same Civic Square space during the month of July. The Canadian Nationalist Party believes this to be an act of political discrimination and one which violates our charter rights.

After learning of this decision, and the decision to grant another political party a permit to demonstrate at Civic Square, the Canadian Nationalist Party again requested a permit to use the space, and again, was denied.

Your application of July 21 appears to be similar to your previous application to book Civic Square. Again the City is unable to approve the request for the Canadian Nationalist Party event as it does not meet the policy guidelines.

You can read the original statement here: Civic Square Booking – Canadian Nationalist Party

If you are someone who believes in a free democracy and the right of access to public spaces for all political parties, we encourage you to contact the Saskatoon Mayor’s office to voice your concerns and demand an explanation:

CNP Serves Winnipeg Media Cease & Desist Order

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Canadian Nationalist Party has served cease and desist letters to a number of Winnipeg media outlets for their illegal and libelous coverage of our political function held in Winnipeg at the Belgian Club on July 28th, 2018.

The media outlets involved in this affair, who strategically partner with Antifa, stormed our event to report on how a “white nationalist” group was holding a meeting at the Belgian Club in Winnipeg. The venue defended our booking, called the police, and had the Antifa hooligans removed.

After pressure from media outlets, the Belgian Club unnecessarily apologized for hosting us. They also fired one of their managers who made comments (which you can see in the video) during the meeting.

We are posting this to demonstrate to the public just how corrupt our media truly is here in Canada.

We should not be tolerating this from our media outlets nor should Canadians be intimidated into silence by the angry leftist mob.

Alternative video hosting source: BitChute | Fake News At the Belgian Club

Following the media coverage of our recent July 28th Winnipeg Nationalist Rally hosted at the Belgian Club, the CNP has decided to serve cease and desist letters to a number of Winnipeg media outlets for their coverage of our event which we believe to be defamatory in nature.

The Canadian Nationalist Party has learned that Winnipeg media outlets have engaged in spreading false, destructive, and defamatory rumors. These defamatory actions involve creating media reports that claim the Canadian Nationalist Party is a “white nationalist” group who supports “anti-immigration” and promotes “monoculturalism”.

We have spent several years serving the community in the political profession and building a positive reputation. These defamatory actions are an attack on our professional reputation and an affront to our community-building efforts.

As a political party whose application is currently in the process to become federally ratified and intends on competing in the upcoming 43rd Federal Election, these characterizations of our party are socially limiting and financially destructive. Canadian citizens who read these media reports and come to the false conclusion that we are indeed as portrayed, will not even consider voting for our political party or support our beliefs in any regard. In some cases, these citizens who gain a false impression of our group because of these defamatory statements will not only disagree with our political message, but will actively oppose us. This is a clear act of defamation and a violation of Canadian law.

To date, our organization has not received a single phone call asking for comment on our Winnipeg Nationalist Rally held July, 28th at the Belgian Club. Our phone number is displayed promptly at the top of our website homepage.

As a public media broadcaster, it is their responsibility to acquire multiple perspectives of a story before making it available to the public. There are numerous sources available directly on our website and elsewhere which explicitly reject the idea that we are a “white nationalist” group.

You can read the full cease and desist orders served to Winnipeg media outlets here:

Winnipeg media reports:

CityNews:

CBC:

* Includes the phrase “white nationalist” directly in source URL. This is an attempt to associate our group with the ideology of white nationalism in search engine queries and otherwise.

CTV:

Please note that our organization has made backup copies of these statements and fully intend on using them as evidence in a formal legal proceeding.

Under Canadian law, it is unlawful to engage in defamation of another’s character and reputation. Defamation consists of:

  1. a statement that tends to injure reputation;
  2. communicated to another; and
  3. that the speaker knew or should have known was false.

Furthermore, the event on July 28th at the Belgian Club was a private function. Yet, the media outlets in question used video footage in their reports which was never authorized by our organization.

Section 184 of the Criminal Code “Every one who, by means of any electro-magnetic, acoustic, mechanical or other device, wilfully intercepts a private communication is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years”.

The video footage used in the media reports was unlawfully acquired by a group who was trespassing on private property in an attempt to disrupt a private function. Publishing this video footage (which was unlawfully acquired) in a media report (which is factually incorrect) is an act of defamation. It is also an act of interception. Considering this is a private event for a political party actively competing in the upcoming 43rd Federal Election, we take this breach of justice very seriously.

Accordingly, we demand that you (A) immediately cease and desist your unlawful defamation of the Canadian Nationalist Party and (B) provide us with prompt written assurance within ten (10) days that you will cease and desist from further defamation of Canadian Nationalist Party’s character and reputation and (C) issue a public retraction of your false and misleading characterizations of our group.

If you do not comply with this cease and desist demand within this time period, the Canadian Nationalist Party is entitled to seek monetary damages and equitable relief for your defamation. In the event you fail to meet this demand, please be advised that the Canadian Nationalist Party will pursue all available legal remedies, including seeking monetary damages, injunctive relief, and an order that you pay court costs and attorney’s fees. Your liability and exposure under such legal action could be considerable.

After watching the media reports of CTV and CityNews making an absolute mockery of what our group represents, the Canadian Nationalist Party has decided to upload our raw video copy of the events which occurred at our Winnipeg Nationalist Rally on July 28th:

Further information regarding our Winnipeg Nationalist Rally held on July 28th:

Until the aforementioned concessions are made, the Canadian Nationalist Party is hereby prohibiting the CTV, and CityNews from attending our events as well as prohibiting our candidates from communicating with them.

We recommend our members pay no attention to the false media narrative of CTV, CityNews, and other corruption outlets in Canada.

* If you support ethical and legal media practices in Canada, we ask you to consider filing a complaint with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council for the recent coverage of our event and party as a whole. You can make a complaint here: Canadian Broadcast Standards Council[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Open Letter to Winnipeg Belgian Club

Belgian Club,

On behalf of the Canadian Nationalist Party I would like to thank you for hosting our group on Saturday, July 28th. Your venue and your staff allowed our event to be a successful one. I am writing you today to clarify the developments during our event and offer a recommendation for your organization.

As I am sure you are aware, our event encountered opposition from Antifa protesters. These protesters had the sole intention of disrupting our event at any cost. Their intentions were never to discuss our party’s political stance in a constructive manner and they appeared unwilling to establish a worthwhile channel of dialogue with us. After police removed these protesters from the venue, the event continued with a presentation on our political ideas for making Canada a better place to live. We later transitioned to another venue in Winnipeg where we concluded the evening.

After watching the media reports of CBC, CTV, and CityNews making an absolute mockery of what exactly our group represents, we decided to upload our raw video copy of the events that occurred at your venue.

You can watch the video here: CNP Meeting at Belgian Club – July 28th, 2018

I believe it would be in the best interest of your organization to distance yourself from these protesters and the misguided opinions they have of the Canadian Nationalist Party.

If I may do so, I would also like to (respectfully) ask you to consider reinstating the former employees that you had step down from their positions because of our booking. The encounters our group had with your staff were nothing but positive and, as a fellow business owner, I understand the value of good employees. It is more important to defend the interests of your employees that it is to maintain a politically-correct image with our increasingly one-sided media.

Once you have viewed the video and consulted with your team, I would like to propose the idea of doing a follow up event for your members and the public during the month of August. During this event, our goal would be to speak on the political viewpoints of our party and promote our ongoing campaign for the upcoming 43rd federal election.

If you were to accept our booking request for the month of August, our event would be open to the public upon ticket purchase. All proceeds for this event would go to your organization and the Royal Canadian Legion. Perhaps more valuable than anything, hosting our political party would demonstrate that the Belgian Club is an organization who is convicted in its non-partisan status and one that promotes traditional Canadian values.

I’m confident the people of Winnipeg will be open to a political narrative other than the uninspiring status quo of the Liberal and Conservative Party.

If you should have any further questions about this request to host an event at your venue during the month of August, you can reach me directly at +1 (888) 505 – 9956.

Travis Patron
Leader of the Canadian Nationalist Party

* If you are interested in hearing the Canadian Nationalist Party speak at the Belgian Club, please let them know you read this open letter and voice your support.

Update On CNP Western Canada Tour

Over the last month, the Canadian Nationalist Party has been touring Western Canada hosting events and introducing our party to new audiences. These events have been organized to communicate our policies and ideas for making Canada a better place to live.

Although our movement is still early, and our numbers are not great, it is encouraging to find that our message has found a dedicated audience across Western Canada. Clearly, Canadians are seeking political change and this is a desire that the existing parties do not address. The Canadian Nationalist Party will continue hosting events and networking with new audiences in Canada in order to find the grassroots support necessary to bring our party success.

As with any new idea, the Canadian Nationalist Party has met initial skepticism and misrepresentation, and it is our responsibility to set the narrative straight.

The members of our political party want to see a government in Canada who prioritizes the interests of majority, native-born citizens. Unfortunately, not everyone in the current political establishment has been open to this viewpoint. We have been banned from publicly funded universities, government owned convention centers, and even public squares that are open to other politically-oriented groups. All of these things have come about despite the fact that our party has not said a hateful word, caused no violence, and have violated no laws.

Recently, our group hosted an event at the Belgian Club in Winnipeg. We would like to extend a thank you to the Belgian Club and their staff for standing strong against attempted intimidation from disruptive protestors. On Saturday, July 28th, 2018 our event was met with protestors who attended our meeting without invitation. This group had no intention of keeping an open channel of dialogue, and therefore, in accordance with our mandate we asked them to vacate the premises. When they refused, we had the police escort these protesters out of the venue. Our group then proceeded with the meeting as usual, delivered a presentation on the viewpoints of our party, and continued the discussion at an additional venue later into the evening. We consider the event a success and the antics of our protestors as a display that threatens the freedom of expression, right to assemble, and ability of third-party organizations to retain their non-partison status when hosting political parties.

The Canadian Nationalist Party would like to thank the Winnipeg Police Department for their cordial and professional handling of the disruptive situation we experienced on July, 28th and for respecting our private booking at the Belgian Club. Although strong words were exchanged, no violence occurred at the event.

We recently received word that the Belgian Club was asking one of their board members to resign following the events during out meeting. We believe this is a short-sighted and poorly thought out decision. The staff at the Belgian Club acted promptly to remove the protesters who were disrupting our event and disrespecting the traditions of the venue. One such protester, refused to remove his face-veil when asked to do so. Other protesters refused to leave when asked to do so. Lest we forget, it is a sign of disrespect when a guest refuses to remove their face-veil inside a hall dedicated to the sacrifices our veterans have made in the name of Canadians rights and freedoms. Fitting then, that this very group intends to disrupt and disrespect these traditions with the actions they displayed on this day.

It is encouraging to see that the Belgian Club employs members of the community who still respect Canadian traditions and do not weaken when challenged with attempted intimidation from Antifa groups. The Canadian Nationalist Party recommends that any such board member’s employment be reinstated and an apology issued to the staff who behaved with professionalism and hospitality.

Furthermore, the Canadian Nationalist Party believes that the local media coverage of the event can be considered defamatory in nature and will be exploring legal avenues in order to protect the reputation of our organization for making false written and oral statements about our organization. In addition, we intend to file a complaint with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council against media outlets local to Winnipeg.

Thank you to our hosts, our sponsors, and our members for making this most recent Western Canada Tour a success. The Canadian Nationalist Party will continue developing its offering in order to ensure that native-born Canadians have a political platform they can use to make constructive change in our country.
